Re: Donations for Earthquake Disaster Relief in Sichuan, China
Dear friends and everyone,
We are shocked and saddened as the disaster caused by a powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake, in Sichuan province, southeast part of China continues to unfold. The extent of the devastation is only just beginning to be known as communication to hardest-hit area has not yet been restored. Nevertheless, the tragedy of lost lives and destroyed communities is clear. The disaster has so far killed 12,000 and injured over 26,000, while 18,600 are still buried under the ruins. Over a million people are homeless. Because it happened during the school hours, large numbers of school children were involved.
Canadian Red Cross has set up an emergency fund to support the disaster relief. Because of the heavy traffic, it is very hard to access their website. To help this go smoothly, I can collect money from you and a tax receipt will be issued on behalf of the Red Cross. If you decide to donate directly, you may visit their website: www.redcross.ca and select China earthquake relief fund.
I would like to ask you for your kind donation to help those who have the greatest immediate and critical needs. My thoughts are with the countless children and their parents (many might have lost their only child) suffering because of these disasters. We can be the ones to make a difference by helping them when they need it most. Your donation will be used to purchase sleeping bags, tents, medicines, food and clothing for them.
