INNIPEG — As the Olympic torch snakes its way through Winnipeg, The Forks will kick off festivities in anticipation for its arrival at the riverside destination Tuesday night.
Festivities kick off at 5 p.m., featuring local entertainment, video presentations, and a performance by award-winning local country rockers Doc Walker.
The flame is expected to arrive at The Forks at 7 p.m. And if you didn’t get enough fireworks on New Year’s Day, more fireworks are expected to go off after the celebrations and concert.
Environment Canada is calling for temperatures to dip to -19 C Tuesday evening.
Winnipeg Transit will also be boosting its operations Tuesday night. Extra buses will be available on Main Street between Broadway and York following the fireworks.
The flame hits Falcon Lake just west of the Ontario-Manitoba boundary at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
From there it moves to Richer and Ste-Anne before reaching Steinbach’s Clear Springs Mall at 11:34 a.m. It is scheduled to arrive in Winnipeg at 4:30 p.m. at the Ed Golding Memorial Arena in Transcona. The flame will make its way through Transcona, Elmwood, St. Boniface and downtown, arriving the Manitoba legislature at 6:33 p.m. before making its way to The Forks.
On Wednesday, it’s in Gimli, Peguis and St. Laurent. Then, on Jan. 9, it’s in Brandon, Sioux Valley and Virden.
More than 100 Manitobans will carry the flame as it travels through the province. |
